Meet the Underground Running Founder - CEO - Special Forces Veteran - and Head Running Coach

Chris Loranger founded Underground Running in May of 2020 during the height COVID-19 lockdowns and social distancing. During a 100k run around his neighborhood, Chris wanted to bring his community out of lockdown and began a resistance. He created a neighborhood Beer Mile that took off; and Underground Running was born.

As an experienced runner of all distances, cross country, track and field, marathons, ultra running and even Ironman triathlons, Chris brings experience, wisdom, knowledge, and proven progressive training methods to achieve results.

Coach Chris is an RRCA Certified Level 1 Coach and Race Director, USATF Certified Level 1 Coach and Cross Country Specialist, and a VDOT02 Certified Distance Running Coach. Chris is currently working on his Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) certificate to add more breadth to his training programs.

Additionally, Chris can develop specific military selection and assessment training programs, such as for Special Forces Selection and Assessment (SFAS) and Ranger School. Coach Chris graduated Ranger school just shy of his 41st birthday and knows what it takes at any level to pass.

Coach Chris is transitioning out of the military after 20 years, with last 15 years in Special Forces as an SF Warrant officer. Chris enjoys doing what he loves: running! Chris enjoys coaching and mentoring runners of all levels to achieve their running and fitness goals. As a Green Beret and a busy family man, Chris understands how challenging it is to balance training with work and family commitments. He specializes in maximizing the value of training for those with hectic schedules because he has been there himself!
